The annual Fetu Afahye festival, celebrated with great enthusiasm in Cape Coast and surrounding communities, has once again drawn significant attention from locals and visitors alike.

This year’s celebrations, spanning Monday to Sunday, saw an influx of guests eager to experience the rich cultural heritage and vibrant festivities.

According to Mr. Thomas Amankwa, the Educational Officer at Cape Coast Castle, the festival attracted noticeably more visitors than usual during the key days of the event. “We observed a remarkable increase in the number of visitors, particularly from Thursday to Sunday,” Mr. Amankwa noted. The heightened attendance reflects growing interest in the festival’s cultural and historical significance.

At Abrofo Mpoano, a fishing community deeply connected to the traditions of the Fetu Afahye, fisherfolk expressed appreciation for the active involvement of the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Council, alongside government officials. The community praised their leadership for engaging directly in the festivities, which has helped strengthen communal bonds and promote the festival’s objectives.

The Fetu Afahye festival continues to serve as a vital platform for preserving cultural identity, fostering unity, and boosting local tourism. As the celebrations come to a close, the positive reception from various stakeholders underscores the enduring importance of this historic event in Cape Coast.
