The New Agyendem community in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District under the Aseebu Traditional Council came alive over the weekend as residents, dignitaries, and well-wishers gathered in colorful traditional regalia to celebrate the 5th Coronation Anniversary of Nana Benyin XIII, Chief of New Agyendem.
The grand durbar, held under the theme “Celebrating Royalty, Preserving Heritage, Inspiring the Future,” showcased the rich cultural heritage and unity of the people. The event drew traditional leaders, government officials, youth groups, and community members who came to honor Nana Benyin XIII for his remarkable leadership and dedication to the development of New Agyendem.
In his keynote address, Nana Benyin XIII reflected on his five years of service to the people, highlighting achievements in community development, sanitation, and youth empowerment. The chief emphasized the importance of preserving cultural values while embracing education and modernization as tools for progress.
In a significant announcement that received thunderous applause from the crowd, Nana Benyin XIII pledged to pay the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) registration fees for all final-year Junior High School (JHS) students in the community. This gesture, he said, is part of his vision to promote education and reduce the financial burden on parents.
“Education is the key to the future of our children and the progress of our community. No child in New Agyendem should be left behind because of financial challenges,” Nana Benyin XIII declared. “By paying these fees, I want to give every student the opportunity to become a candidate for the BECE and take a step closer to achieving their dreams.”
The chief’s promise was met with cheers and expressions of gratitude from parents and teachers alike. Community elders commended Nana Benyin XIII for his continuous commitment to development and for being a true example of leadership with purpose.
Elders of the Aseebu Traditional Council, who graced the occasion, praised the chief’s initiative, noting that education remains a vital pillar in sustaining the community’s growth and preserving its heritage.
The anniversary celebration featured rich cultural displays, drumming, dancing, and the pouring of libation to honor ancestors. The durbar ground was adorned with colorful kente cloths and traditional symbols, reflecting the deep cultural roots of the Aseebu Traditional Area.
As the event drew to a close, many community members expressed renewed hope and pride in their chief’s leadership. Nana Benyin XIII reaffirmed his commitment to unity, development, and the empowerment of the youth, encouraging everyone to work together to “inspire the future” of New Agyendem.
