Residents and commercial motorbike operators (Okada riders) within the Dabir Electoral Area of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality have renewed calls for immediate government intervention to address the worsening road conditions affecting the communities of Dabir, Benyadze, and Egyeikrom.

In a show of community spirit and frustration over years of neglect, members of the Dabir Electoral Area Okada Riders Association on Sunday embarked on a voluntary road maintenance exercise to improve access for commuters and motorists using the stretch.

The initiative comes amid growing concerns over the deteriorating state of the road network, which residents say becomes particularly hazardous during the rainy season. According to the riders, the poor condition of the roads has contributed to frequent accidents, increased vehicle repair costs, and higher transport fares for passengers.

The association expressed disappointment over what it described as prolonged neglect despite several appeals to the relevant authorities. Members are therefore calling on the Member of Parliament for the area, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and the Assembly Member to urgently intervene and provide a lasting solution to the road challenges confronting the affected communities.

Speaking to Asorba Media during the exercise, some riders criticized both local and national authorities for failing to address the deteriorating road network, particularly the stretch from Ayensudo through Benyadze and adjoining communities, which they described as one of the worst in the municipality.

“We keep hearing about road construction equipment and development projects, but we have not seen any meaningful work done on this road. Every day, people travel on this route, and its current condition poses a serious threat to lives and property,” one rider lamented.

Residents also noted that even a slight rainfall leaves portions of the road nearly impassable, disrupting economic activities, access to healthcare, education, and the free movement of people and goods.

The people of Dabir, Benyadze, and Egyeikrom are therefore appealing to all stakeholders, including government officials, traditional leaders, and development partners, to prioritize the rehabilitation of the road and help improve living conditions within the area.
