A citizen of Cape Coast, identified as Mr. Yesterday, has called on the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Cape Coast, George Justice Arthur, to focus on addressing key developmental challenges facing the metropolis, particularly the completion of the stalled Anafo Market project.

In a message shared on the Oguaaman Seniors WhatsApp platform on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 12:28 p.m., Mr. Yesterday reminded the MCE that his appointment was intended to serve the people and improve conditions within the Cape Coast Metropolis.

According to him, discussions surrounding the government’s 24-hour economy policy should not overshadow the pressing needs of residents. He argued that Cape Coast’s longstanding challenge has been the lack of jobs rather than the absence of markets.

Mr. Yesterday noted that Anafo Market holds historical significance as the first market built in the Gold Coast, now Ghana. He questioned the delay in completing the new Anafo Market and urged the MCE to set aside political considerations and ensure that the project is completed for the benefit of the people of Oguaa.

He also expressed concern about the conditions under which displaced market women have been operating since their relocation. Citing the severe rains experienced in recent months, he appealed to the MCE to personally visit the temporary site and witness the challenges faced by the traders.

“Take a day in the lives of these market women and understand their worries,” he stated, adding that such a visit would provide firsthand insight into the difficulties they endure while waiting for the completion of the new market.

Mr. Yesterday further alleged that the roof of the uncompleted Anafo Market has deteriorated and described conditions at the temporary market location as equally troubling.

Drawing comparisons with former Cape Coast administrator Col. Frank Bernasko, whose contributions remain remembered in the city’s history, he encouraged George Justice Arthur to leave a lasting legacy through tangible development projects that improve the lives of residents.

He concluded by stating that the “Silent Majority” and the people of Oguaaman would welcome and appreciate efforts by the MCE to complete the Anafo Market project and return traders to a more suitable and permanent facility.

The comments have generated discussion on the Oguaaman Seniors WhatsApp platform, where residents continue to share views on development priorities within the Cape Coast Metropolis.
