The Ankaful Prisons Officers Training School (APOTS) has graduated 284 new officers at its second passing-out parade over the weekend.
The new personnel, including 132 females, were enrolled in December 2024 for the 126th recruit course. They underwent intensive physical, psychological and academic training to prepare them for service in the Ghana Prisons Service.
The fresh officers will be posted to various stations nationwide to strengthen security and support the Service’s role in the justice system.
The Oguaamanhen, Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Atta II, and various dignitaries attended the colourful ceremony. Recruit Officer Prince Manfo Nyamekye was named the Overall Best Recruit, with other outstanding trainees also being honoured.
Speaking at the event, Director of Prisons in Charge of Human Resource, DOP Issaku Yahayah, said the Service was working to transform prisons into modern correctional centres by introducing vocational training, psychological support, and behavioural reforms for inmates.
He noted that the Service was expanding infrastructure, creating new directorates, and implementing changes to support this vision.
DOP Yahayah urged the new officers to work with courage, compassion, and dedication, and to serve as agents of change, guardians of justice, and ambassadors of hope.
“As you go into the field, wear your uniform with pride, serve with humility and uphold the good name of the Ghana Prisons Service. Together, let us work towards a more secure, humane and modern correctional system for our country,” he said.
He also commended the APOTS authorities and staff for their dedication to training the recruits and encouraged them to maintain their high standards.
