Residents of Kwaprow, a sub-community within the Cape Coast Metropolis, have issued a passionate appeal to the government to urgently address a collapsed culvert that has remained a major hazard for the past six years.

The call was made by the Chief, Elders, and the entire citizenry of Kwaprow during an interaction with Coastal Television on its community-focused programme, Community Connect. According to the community leaders, the damaged culvert—situated between Kwaprow and Ankaful—has deteriorated into what they describe as a “death trap,” posing serious risks to both motorists and pedestrians.
They emphasized that the prolonged neglect of the culvert has significantly disrupted economic activities in the area. Farmers and traders, who rely heavily on the route to transport goods between the two communities, continue to face severe challenges. The situation, they noted, has led to increased transportation costs, delays, and in some cases, loss of perishable produce.
Speaking on behalf of the community, some elders lamented that several appeals to the relevant authorities over the years have yielded no results. They warned that the condition of the culvert continues to worsen, especially during the rainy season when it becomes nearly impassable.
“This is not just an inconvenience; it is a serious danger to lives,” one community member stated. “We are pleading with the government to come to our aid before a major tragedy occurs.”
The residents further stressed that repairing the culvert would not only improve safety but also enhance economic productivity by restoring a vital link between Kwaprow and Ankaful.
They are therefore urging the government and all relevant stakeholders to treat the issue as a matter of urgency and take immediate steps to reconstruct the culvert.
