The Queen Mother of Amosima, Nana Okomegua II, has advised the youth, particularly young women, to learn vocational trades such as seamstress work and dressmaking, saying such skills can provide sustainable income to support their families in the future.
She gave the advice at Amosima in the AAK District of the Central Region during the inauguration of the Amosima Zone of the Ghana National Tailors’ and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA). The occasion also marked the first graduation ceremony of two apprentices trained under the association.
Addressing the gathering, Nana Okomegua II emphasized the importance of vocational education in empowering the youth and reducing unemployment. She noted that learning a trade not only promotes self-reliance but also equips young people with practical skills that can be passed on to others, thereby contributing to community development.
The Queen Mother commended the Ghana National Tailors’ and Dressmakers Association for extending its activities to Amosima and for supporting skills training at the grassroots level. She encouraged parents to support their children, especially girls, to take vocational training seriously.
On behalf of the National President of the Association, Mr. Abdulia Arahoman, the Central Regional Chairman of the GNTDA assured the community of the association’s continued commitment to skills development. He announced that the association would offer five free scholarships to interested persons in the area to learn tailoring and dressmaking.
He explained that the scholarship initiative is aimed at supporting underprivileged youth and helping them acquire employable skills to improve their livelihoods.
The inauguration and graduation ceremony attracted traditional leaders, members of the association, parents, and residents of Amosima, who expressed appreciation for the initiative and called for sustained support for vocational training in the district.
