A 13-year-old schoolboy, Sylverster Kojo Nkrumah Essuman, popularly known as Kojo Pope, has appealed to parents to stop the practice of reporting their children to teachers mainly for punishment, urging families to adopt more understanding and communicative approaches to discipline.

The young boy made the appeal on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, while celebrating his 13th birthday with friends and family members. Speaking during the celebration, Kojo Pope expressed concern about how some students are treated in schools after their parents report them for disciplinary action.

According to him, although discipline is important, constant reporting of children to teachers for punishment often creates fear, embarrassment, and emotional distress among students. He noted that many children are punished without being given the chance to explain themselves or correct their mistakes through guidance.

“Parents should talk to their children first and understand what really happened,” he said. “Not every issue should be taken to school for punishment. Talking and guiding a child can help more than fear.”

He further encouraged parents to build trust with their children and work together with teachers in a positive way, focusing on counseling and correction rather than harsh punishment. He also called on teachers to handle such cases with empathy and care.

His statement drew attention and praise from guests present at the birthday celebration, many of whom described him as bold, thoughtful, and concerned about the wellbeing of fellow students.

The appeal has added to ongoing discussions on child welfare, school discipline, and modern parenting approaches.
