A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, December 24, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m. when a 31-year-old masonry apprentice, Eric Ofori, drowned in the Kakum River at the Ankaful Rambles area.

Eric Ofori was working at a construction site with his senior brother, Master Kweku Kowadze, when the unfortunate incident happened. According to Master Kowadze, they were almost done with their concrete work when Eric and five other young men decided to go and bathe in the river nearby.

Speaking to Asorba Media.com, Master Kweku Kowadze said he cautioned them against going to the river, stressing that it was not the purpose of their presence at the site. Despite his warning, they went ahead.

Moments later, Eric Ofori reportedly fell into the river and did not resurface. Efforts to save him were unsuccessful, and he was later confirmed dead at the scene.

The incident has left family members, co-workers, and residents of the area in deep shock and sorrow. Eric Ofori was described as a hardworking young man who was learning the masonry trade under the guidance of his elder brother.

Authorities are expected to take the necessary steps as investigations into the incident continue.
