In a grand and historic ceremony at the Emitsimadze Palace in Cape Coast, the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Council, Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Atta II, and his sub-chiefs have honoured Ghana’s first female Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
The celebration recognised Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s groundbreaking achievement as the first woman to become Vice President of Ghana, and as a proud daughter of the Central Region. She was adorned in rich royal cloth and traditional beads, a powerful symbol of the region’s blessings and honour.
The event featured vibrant cultural displays, drumming, dancing, and tributes from traditional leaders, queen mothers, and citizens. A special citation was presented to her, highlighting her academic excellence, humility, and lifelong commitment to public service.
“Today is not just an honour to me personally, but a celebration of the dreams and determination of all women, particularly from the Central Region,” she said to loud applause.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang thanked the chiefs and people of Cape Coast for their support during the 2024 elections, where she was elected alongside President John Dramani Mahama. She promised to work hard for the development of the region and the nation as a whole.
The Vice President was joined by the Central Regional Minister, MMDCEs, government officials, and senior members of the NDC, all showing strong support and solidarity.
“We are proud that one of our own, a daughter of the land, has reached this milestone. The stool of Oguaa stands firmly behind you,” declared Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Atta II.
The durbar ended with a colourful cultural display that highlighted the rich heritage of the Oguaa people and reaffirmed their unity and commitment to national development.
