Komenda, Central Region — The Queen Mother of Dompoase has issued a passionate call to authorities, community leaders, and parents to intensify efforts in combating the growing social challenges affecting young people within the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality.
Speaking during the Christ the King Feast Celebration organized by the St. George Parish of the Roman Catholic Church in Komenda, the Queen Mother expressed deep concern over the rising cases of teenage pregnancy and HIV/AIDS infections in the municipality. She described the trend as alarming and detrimental to the future of the youth.
According to her, many young girls, especially in the Kissi area, are increasingly engaging in prostitution, which she said contributes not only to the spread of sexually transmitted infections but also exposes them to exploitation and long-term socio-economic challenges.
She lamented that the situation has worsened due to growing indecent dressing, drug abuse, and general indiscipline among many young people in the municipality.
“Our future leaders are losing their way. Teenage pregnancy is rising, HIV/AIDS cases are increasing, and many of our young ladies are turning to prostitution, especially in Kissi. We need immediate community action to save our children,” she stressed.
The Queen Mother urged the KEEA Municipal Assembly, religious bodies, traditional authorities, and civil society organizations to collaborate and intensify education campaigns to address the menace.
She called for the revival of community-based mentorship, moral training, and youth development programs to help redirect the energies of the youth toward positive ventures.
“Drug abuse and growing indiscipline among the youth are destroying families and ruining destinies. We must not sit idle and watch this continue,” she added.
The Queen Mother’s message resonated strongly with parishioners and local leaders present at the celebration, many of whom pledged to support initiatives aimed at promoting moral values and empowering the youth.
As the KEEA Municipality continues to battle rising social challenges, her call serves as a reminder of the urgent need for collective responsibility and proactive community engagement to safeguard the future of the next generation.
