A taxi driver at the Abura–CCTU Taxi Station in the Cape Coast Metropolis, Mr. Ackoah Nyamoah, popularly known as “Auto,” has alleged that he was assaulted by the bodyguard of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. George Justice Arthur, and has given the MCE a seven-day ultimatum to apologize.
Speaking to AsorbaMedia.com, Mr. Nyamoah said the incident occurred exactly one week ago at the taxi station.
According to him, while he was seated at the station, a young man approached him and ordered him to stand up.
“The young man came and stood in front of me and said, ‘Stand up.’ I asked him why I should stand up for him. He then replied that he was the MCE for Cape Coast and ordered me to stand up immediately,” Mr. Nyamoah recounted.
He said that upon realizing the man’s identity, he stood up and responded that he did not know he was the MCE. However, he alleged that he was suddenly slapped twice from behind by an unidentified person.
“When I asked why I had been slapped, the MCE told me to keep quiet; otherwise, he would call the police to arrest me,” he claimed.
Mr. Nyamoah said he subsequently left the scene. Later, after the MCE and his entourage had departed, some fellow drivers informed him that the person who allegedly slapped him was one Ekow Kakraba, believed to be the MCE’s bodyguard.
Following the incident, Mr. Nyamoah reported the matter to the Abura Police Station. According to him, he met a policewoman who advised him to bring the alleged assailant to the station and obtain a hospital form for medical examination before any further action could be taken.
“I left the police station, and up till today, I have not heard from anyone concerning the matter,” he said.
Expressing his frustration, Mr. Nyamoah stated that he has now “referred the matter to the gods of his land” to seek justice.
He further warned that if he does not receive an apology from Hon. George Justice Arthur within seven days, he will leave the matter in the hands of his traditional deities.
As of the time of filing this report, Hon. George Justice Arthur and his office had not publicly responded to the allegations. Efforts to obtain comments from the MCE and the individuals mentioned in the claims are ongoing.
