AN OPEN LETTER TO HON. ERNEST ARTHUR

Former Metropolitan Chief Executive, Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (2017–2024) and Former New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for Cape Coast South.

Dear Hon. Ernest Arthur,

I write this open letter not only as a media practitioner but also as a concerned citizen who believes that leadership extends beyond holding public office.

It has been over a week since the heavy rains caused destruction across parts of the Cape Coast Metropolis. Buildings have collapsed, lives have reportedly been lost, several others have sustained injuries, and many families continue to count their losses. These unfortunate events have left residents worried and searching for reassurance from leaders who once served and sought the confidence of the people.

As the former Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly from 2017 to 2024 and the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate, many residents expected to hear from you or members of your team during this difficult period. Your voice, concern, or presence would have offered comfort to victims and demonstrated solidarity with the affected communities.

Many are asking: Where is Hon. Ernest Arthur?

Leadership is remembered not only for projects undertaken while in office but also for compassion shown when people are facing hardship. Even after leaving office, public figures who have served their communities often continue to provide moral support and advocacy during times of crisis.

If you or your team have reached out to affected families or supported relief efforts, many residents appear unaware of those actions. In times like these, communicating with the public is an important part of leadership.

This has led some members of the public to question whether they will only hear from you when elections are approaching. Whether or not that perception is fair, it reflects the expectations many people still have of leaders who once represented them.

I therefore respectfully encourage you to speak to the people of Cape Coast, visit the affected communities if you have not already done so, and stand in solidarity with those who have suffered losses. Such a gesture would reassure many that leadership is defined not only by holding office but also by continued commitment to the welfare of the people.

The people of Cape Coast deserve empathy, reassurance, and support during this difficult time.

Respectfully,

Signed

Frank Kofi Essuman
