The District Chief Executive for Assin South District, Hon. Jonathan Birikorang, has commissioned a six-unit classroom block and a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Assin Ningo, aimed at improving access to quality education and healthcare delivery in the area.

The new infrastructure is expected to ease classroom congestion, enhance teaching and learning conditions, and strengthen primary healthcare services for residents within the community and surrounding settlements.

As part of support to the health facility, the DCE presented essential medical equipment and a motorcycle to assist health workers in reaching patients and delivering timely services, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.

The commissioning ceremony, held on the school compound, brought together traditional authorities, Assembly Members, education officials, opinion leaders, and residents, who witnessed the official handover of the facilities.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Birikorang explained that the projects form part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to expand educational infrastructure and improve service delivery across rural and peri-urban communities in the district. He noted that overcrowded classrooms continue to negatively affect learning outcomes, making continued investment in education essential.

He also stressed the need for community ownership and maintenance of public infrastructure to ensure long-term sustainability.
“The government alone cannot do it all. We all have a role to play in maintaining these projects to ensure they serve generations to come,” he said.
The DCE further acknowledged that the CHPS compound was initiated by his predecessor and expressed satisfaction at its completion, describing it as a sign of continuity in development planning.
The District Director of Education, Mr. Isaac Nkum, commended the Assembly for the intervention, describing the project as timely and impactful in improving learning conditions and reducing congestion in classrooms.
Traditional leaders and residents also expressed gratitude to the Assembly and government, pledging to safeguard the facilities and support their maintenance.
The projects are expected to significantly improve access to both education and healthcare services for residents of Assin Ningo and nearby communities.
