The 24th day of December is traditionally observed by many churches in Ghana as the Night of Nine Lessons and Carols—a sacred evening dedicated to scriptures on the birth of the Messiah, interwoven with Christmas carols and songs of joy. This cherished tradition was beautifully upheld at the Abura Central, Glorious Assembly of The Apostolic Church–Ghana, as the church marked the eve of Christmas, Tuesday, December 24, 2025, with a memorable Carol’s Night service.

The colourful event was led by the Children’s Ministry in collaboration with the Youth Ministry of the church. The Abura District, which operates under the Cape Coast Area of The Apostolic Church–Ghana, is made up of locals drawn from Abura and surrounding communities, including Wiamoah, Ebubonko, Amoyaw, Esuekyir, Kakumdo, Dankwakrom, Ekroful, Pedu and Abura. Children and youth from these various locals converged at the Abura Central Assembly to celebrate the birth of Christ.
The night commenced at about 5:30 pm with opening prayers, followed by an energetic praise and dance session that filled the auditorium with excitement and gratitude. This was succeeded by a solemn worship moment, setting the spiritual tone for the evening. The purpose of the gathering was then outlined, after which the congregation sang The Apostolic Twi Hymnal 107, “W’awo Yesu Kristo nnɛ” (Jesus Christ has been born today), to officially usher in the programme.
As the evening progressed, children from the various locals in the Abura District took turns to read the biblical lessons recounting the story of Christ’s birth. The programme was further enriched with captivating performances, including drama presentations, song ministrations, choreography and Christmas carols, all of which added beauty and depth to the celebration.
The Master of Ceremonies for the night, Mr. Bernard, brought life and balance to the programme with his engaging style. He occasionally posed questions on the birth of Jesus Christ and shared light-hearted jokes, keeping the congregation attentive and joyful. The youth of the district also played a significant role, contributing actively to the smooth flow and success of the programme.
Midway through the service, the Abura District Pastor, Pastor Amos Opoku, delivered a Christmas message. He highlighted the true significance of Christmas and emphasized the need for believers to cultivate gratitude and reflect on God’s gift of salvation through Christ.

The programme came to an exciting close with an electrifying song ministration by the Abura Central Youth. The MC expressed heartfelt appreciation to the congregation, dignitaries and all participants for their presence and support. The service ended with the singing of The Apostolic Twi Hymnal 172, “Yehowa ne me hwɛfo” (The Lord is my Shepherd). Overseer Dr. Godwin Yawotse said the closing prayer, after which Pastor Amos Opoku pronounced the final blessing.
As congregants—children, youth and adults alike—gradually dispersed to their homes with smiles and joy, the Central Choir of the Glorious Assembly continued to bless the atmosphere with soothing Christmas carol songs, bringing the night to a peaceful and joyful close.
