Residents and fish mongers of Ekon, a sub-community in the Cape Coast Metropolis of the Central Region, have appealed to telecommunications companies to construct a network mast in the area to improve communication services.
According to the residents, the community currently experiences poor network connectivity, making it difficult for them to make phone calls or access the internet. They say the situation is negatively affecting their daily communication and business activities.

Some fish mongers who spoke to reporters explained that the lack of reliable network services makes it difficult for them to communicate with fishermen at sea as well as buyers in nearby markets. They therefore called on telecommunications companies in Ghana to come to their aid by building a telecommunications mast in the community to ensure a smooth flow of communication for both internet services and normal phone calls.
The residents also used the opportunity to appeal to the government to construct a landing beach for the Ekon fishing community.
According to them, the absence of a landing beach in the community has compelled many fishermen, including their husbands and relatives, to travel to fishing communities such as Shama and Sekondi to carry out their fishing activities.
They noted that some fishermen are even forced to travel outside the country in search of better fishing opportunities due to the lack of proper fishing facilities in Ekon.
The residents believe that the construction of a landing beach will help improve fishing activities in the area, create employment opportunities, and boost the local economy.
The concerns were made known during a durbar held at the grounds of Coastal Television as part of its community outreach programme dubbed “Community Connect.”
They therefore called on the government and relevant authorities to consider their request and provide the necessary infrastructure to support the livelihoods of people in the community.
