*Moree Residents Dump Refuse at Seashore over Lack of Waste Containers*

IMG 20260115 WA0042

Residents of Moree in the AAK District have resorted to dumping refuse along the sea shore due to the absence of proper waste disposal facilities in the community.

A visit by Coastal Television revealed heaps of household waste scattered along the coastline, creating serious environmental and health concerns. The refuse, which includes plastics and organic waste, has polluted the shore and poses a threat to marine life as well as residents who depend on the sea for their livelihood.

In interviews with residents, they admitted that dumping refuse at the sea shore is not a good practice. However, they insist they have been left with no alternative.

“We know it is not good for us to dump refuse at the sea shore,” a resident stated. “But there is no other means of dumping waste. We don’t even have a Zoomlion container in this community.”

Another resident explained that the lack of waste management facilities has been a long-standing problem, despite several complaints to the relevant authorities.

According to the residents, the situation has made the environment unattractive and has increased the risk of disease outbreaks, especially during the rainy season.

The people of Moree are therefore calling on the AAK District Assembly and sanitation authorities to urgently provide Zoomlion waste containers and ensure regular collection of refuse to prevent further pollution of the coastline.

Until proper measures are put in place, residents fear the practice will continue, worsening environmental degradation and public health risks in the coastal community.
