The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Hon. Dr. Kwamena Mintah Nyarko, joined residents of Abura in the Cape Coast Metropolis to observe and participate in the National Clean-Up Exercise aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and preventing the outbreak of sanitation-related diseases.

The exercise brought together assembly members, community leaders, youth groups, traders, and other volunteers who desilted gutters, swept streets, and cleared refuse from public spaces within the Abura community.

Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Dr. Kwamena Mintah Nyarko commended the impressive turnout and emphasized that sanitation is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of every citizen. He urged residents to maintain clean surroundings at all times instead of relying solely on periodic clean-up campaigns.
The MP noted that poor sanitation contributes to flooding and the spread of diseases such as cholera and malaria, stressing that keeping the environment clean is essential for protecting lives and improving public health.
He also encouraged community members to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drains and open spaces, adding that a clean environment enhances the beauty and development of Cape Coast.
Residents expressed appreciation to the MP for participating in the exercise and pledged to support future sanitation initiatives to ensure that Abura remains clean throughout the year.
The National Clean-Up Exercise forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve sanitation across the country and encourage greater community participation in environmental management.
