The Chief Executive Officer of Coastal Television, Mrs. Gifty Nyomi, together with the station’s management, in collaboration with the Central Alumni Foundation (CAF), has made a donation of clothing to the people of Abakam and Ahenboboiw, two fishing communities in the Cape Coast Metropolis along the Cape Coast–Takoradi highway, near Elmina.

The presentation, which took place in the communities, formed part of a humanitarian response to challenges faced by local fisherfolk following the construction of the sea defence project in the area.

Speaking during the donation exercise, Mrs. Gifty Nyomi explained that the initiative was inspired by a story aired on Coastal Television on 5th November 2025. According to her, the broadcast highlighted the frustrations and hardships of fishermen from Abakam and Ahenboboiw, who complained bitterly about how the sea defence project had adversely affected their fishing activities and livelihoods.

“As a media house, we believe our work should go beyond reporting. When we told the story of these communities and heard their pain, we felt a responsibility to act,” Mrs. Nyomi said. “This donation is a small way of showing solidarity with the fishermen and their families who have been impacted.”

She added that Coastal Television, together with CAF, remains committed to supporting vulnerable coastal communities and amplifying their voices to the relevant authorities for lasting solutions.

Representatives of the Central Alumni Foundation noted that the collaboration with Coastal Television was driven by a shared passion for community development and social responsibility, particularly in coastal areas where livelihoods are closely tied to the sea.

Residents of Abakam and Ahenboboiw expressed gratitude to Mrs. Nyomi, Coastal Television, and CAF for the gesture, describing it as timely and encouraging. Some community members appealed to government and stakeholders to further engage with them to address the long-term effects of the sea defence project on their fishing work.

The donation exercise ended with calls for sustained support and dialogue to ensure that coastal protection projects do not come at the expense of the livelihoods of local fishing communities.
